Europe in Winter

A fractured Europe. A parallel world. A global threat.
Union has come. The Community is now the largest nation in Europe; trains run there from as far afield as London and Prague. It is an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity.
So what is the reason for a huge terrorist outrage? Why do the Community and Europe meet in secret, exchanging hostages? And who are Les Coureurs des Bois?
Along with a motley crew of strays and mafiosi and sleeper agents, Rudi sets out to answer these questions – only to discover the truth lies both closer to home and farther away than anyone could possibly imagine.

Alicia Jones is concerned about a few things. The bug threat, the quick rise in technological superiority for Earth, and what technology or scientific theory she’s going to focus on next.
After a personal tragedy she starts going through the motions, almost directionless as the treaty worlds debate strongly about what to do with the Bug threat. That is until a team of scientists are put together to approach the Drenil, and try and work out a way to communicate with the very alien species, which uses technology that seems more like magic than science. It’s an Enigma which may prove impossible to discern.

**The latest from legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting, extraordinarily eerie, and moving story about a man whose mysterious affliction brings a small town together—a timely, upbeat tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences.**
Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.
In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade—but escalating—battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face–including his own—he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott’s affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others.
From Stephen King, our “most precious renewable resource, like Shakespeare in the malleability of his work” ( *The Guardian* ), *Elevation* is an antidote to our divisive culture, as gloriously joyful (with a twinge of deep sadness) as “It’s a Wonderful Life.” **
### Amazon.com Review
**An Amazon Best Book of November 2018:** The first thing to note about Stephen King’s *Elevation* is that it is a short book—small and short. This being an online store, it is useful to point out that it will not land on your doorstep with the thud of a typical Stephen King novel. The second thing to note is that it is a fun and surprisingly moving read. When we first meet Scott Carey, he is knocking on the door of a doctor’s condo. Carey discloses to the doctor that he is experiencing a unique condition: he is losing weight but not mass. Every day he is a little lighter and no one can tell the difference. When the doctor points out that this is likely not a condition treatable by modern medicine, Carey appears to concur. So if he is possibly running out of time, what’s next? Scott Carey opts to conduct his life with honor and conviction, and to make the world a better place. Set in King’s fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, the book has very little of the classic King darkness—and it has the feel of a parable. The lesson is that we might actually all be able to get along. Could it be as easy as giving up a little bit of ourselves each day? *\–Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review*

“A resident with a mystical ailment begins spreading exuberance and kindness, the side effects of his unusual affliction…[a] somber, sweet novella.”

Einstein’s Unfinished Revolution

A daring new vision of quantum theory from one of the leading minds of contemporary physics
Quantum physics is the golden child of modern science. It is the basis of our understanding of atoms, radiation, and so much else, from elementary particles and basic forces to the behavior of materials. But for a century it has also been the problem child of science: it has been plagued by intense disagreements between its inventors, strange paradoxes, and implications that seem like the stuff of fantasy. Whether it’s Schrödinger’s cat—a creature that is simultaneously dead and alive—or a belief that the world does not exist independently of our observations of it, quantum theory challenges our fundamental assumptions about reality.
In Beyond the Quantum, theoretical physicist Lee Smolin provocatively argues that the problems which have bedeviled quantum physics since its inception are unsolved and unsolvable, for the simple reason that the…

Dragons of Wild

*In a time of darkness, unlikely heroes will rise.* The once peaceful kingdom of Torvald has been ravaged by evil magic, forcing Riders to forget their dragons and their noble beasts to flee to the wilds. Now, anyone who dares to speak of dragons is deemed insane and put to death. Into this dark and twisted land, Saffron was born sixteen years ago. Cursed with dragon affinity and magical powers, she has been forced into a life of exile and raised by dragons—secretly dreaming of a normal life and the family she lost. But as her powers become more uncontrollable, Saffron knows she must find her family before she hurts herself—or worse, her dragon clan. Scholarly and reclusive, Bower prefers to spend his days reading about the legends of the Dragon Riders—even if being caught means death. But as the son of a noble house on the brink of destruction, it falls to him to fulfill a mysterious prophecy and save his kingdom from the rule of the evil King Enric—yet all he wants is to be left alone to read. When fate brings him into contact with Saffron, Bower gains a powerful ally—but one whose wild, volatile magic threatens their very lives. Their friendship might just have the power to change the course of history, but when the Dark Mage King Enric makes Saffron a tempting offer, their alliance will be shaken to its core.

Dragons of Kings

The battle for Torvald begins.
As the young heir of a noble house fallen into decay, Bower has reluctantly shouldered the mantle he was born with—that of Torvald’s rightful king. It is his destiny to throw off the shackles of King Enric and lead his people to freedom, or so he’s been told.
With the help of the wild and untamed Dragon Rider Saffron, he hopes to unite his downtrodden people. It will take an uneasy alliance with a rogue band of Dragon Riders and their charismatic leader, Ryland, to challenge the Dark Mage king, but distrust threatens to tear apart the force that he’s risked everything to build.
Now, on the eve of battle, Bower will have to fulfill a mystical prophecy and become the leader he was born to be, or risk his future kingdom falling apart. Surrounded on all sides by deadly foes, he must face not only the evil king, but his deep doubts about himself.

Dorset Murders

Life in the largely rural county of Dorset has not always been idyllic, for over the years it has experienced numerous murders, some of which are little known outside the county borders, others that have shocked the nation. These include arguments between lovers with fatal consequences, family murders, child murders, and mortal altercations at Dorset’s notorious Portland Prison. The entire country thrilled to the scandalous cases of Alma Rattenbury and Charlotte Bryant who, in the 1930s, found living with their husbands so difficult that both found a terminal solution to the problem. In 1856, Elizabeth Browne rid herself of a husband and, in doing so, became the inspiration for Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles. The mystery of the Coverdale Kennels at Tarrant Keynston, where not one, but two kennel managers died in suspicious circumstances, remains unsolved to this day. And it was in Bournemouth that Neville Heath committed the second of his two murders, which led to his arrest and eventual execution in 1946. Illustrated with 50 intriguing illustrations, Dorset Murders will appeal to anyone interested in the shady side of the county’s history.

The Passage of Time has been opened and the siege of Arkhangelsk has begun.
Djinn, the fourth book in the Adventures of Hanover and Singh, pulls the different threads of the series together, throwing the Hanovers and their allies into close quarters with steam-powered machines, time demons, Cossack rebels and djinn as they race to close the Passage of Time and free the city of Arkhangelsk.
While Luise Hanover steams north with the Wallendorf war machine, Hari travels to Afghanistan in search of an old friend who just might tip the balance in the coming battle.
Djinn is the fourth Steampunk Adventure set in Central Asia and Russia in the 1850s, full of heavy metal battles, ancient beings, Cossacks, smoke and steam.
Djinn continues the adventures of Hanover and Singh, linking each of the previous books: Metal Emissary (book 1), Slow Demons (book 2) and Khronos (book 3). It also hints to earlier stories that can be found in the “Emissary Metal” series, also available.

Dirty Tricks

The victory of Richard Nixon in the US presidential election of 1968 swung on an “October Surprise”— a treasonous plot engineered by key figures in the Republican Party to keep the South Vietnamese government away from peace talks in Paris, costing thousands of American lives.
There is growing evidence that the CIA was deeply involved in illegal domestic operations targeting Daniel Ellsberg, and in the Watergate break-ins during Nixon’s 1972 campaign, which ultimately led to his downfall. CIA Director Richard Helms’ relationship with Watergate burglar E. Howard Hunt was much closer than previously disclosed and the CIA agent inside the plot was sent on a double agent mission by American intelligence after he got out of prison.
Drawing on newly-declassified files and previously-unpublished documents, Dirty Tricks debunks the myths around Watergate and deepens our understanding of the “dirty tricks” that undermined democracy during the Nixon years and destroyed…
