*# 3 New York Times* bestseller in hardcover. David Weber *New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal* and international bestselling **phenomenon delivers book #13 in the multiple *New York Times* best-selling Honor Harrington series. Honor Harrington faces down a powerful attack by a corrupt and powerful star empire while rooting out a deadly plot to enslave the entire human-inhabited galaxy. ** **
Peril and strife strike on a double front for Honor Harrington and company. After a brutal attack on the Manticoran home system, Honor Harrington and the Star Kingdom she serves battle back against a new, technologically powerful, and utterly nefarious enemy. And as if that weren’t task enough, Honor must also face down a centuries-old nemesis in the crumbling, but still mighty, Solarian League.

Behind that plan lies the shadowy organization known as the Mesan Alignment.
Task number one for Honor is to defend against another devastating Mesan strike–a strike that may well spell the doom of the Star Kingdom in one fell blow. It is time to shut down and secure the wormhole network that is the source of the Star Kingdom’s wealth and power–but also its greatest vulnerability. Yet this is an act that the ancient and corrupt Earth-based Solarian League inevitably will take as a declaration of war.
The thunder of battle rolls as the Solarian League directs its massive power against the Star Kingdom. And once again, Honor Harrington is thrust into a desperate battle that she *must* win if she is to survive to take the fight to the real enemy of galactic freedom–the insidious puppetmasters of war who lurk behind the Mesan Alignment!

A Mighty Fortress

**The latest novel in the *New York Times* -bestselling series begun with *Off Armageddon Reef* , *By Schism Rent Asunder* , and *By Heresies Distressed*.**
Young Cayleb Ahrmahk has accomplished things few people could even dream of. Not yet even thirty years old, he’s won the most crushing naval victories in human history. He’s smashed a hostile alliance of no less than five princedoms and won the hand of the beautiful young Queen Sharleyan of Chisholm. Cayleb and Sharleyan have created the Charisian Empire, the greatest naval power in the history of Safehold, and they’ve turned Charis into a place of refuge for all who treasure freedom.
Their success may prove short-lived. The Church of God Awaiting, which controls most of Safehold, has decreed their destruction. Mother Church’s entire purpose is to prevent the very things to which Charis is committed. Since the first attempt to crush the heretics failed, the Church has no choice but to adopt some of the hated Charisian innovations for themselves. Soon a mighty fleet will sail against Cayleb, destroying everything in its path.
But there are still matters about which the Church knows nothing, including Cayleb and Sharleyan’s adviser, friend, and guardian- the mystic warrior-monk named Merlin Athrawes. Merlin knows all about battles against impossible odds, because he is in fact the cybernetic avatar of a young woman named Nimue Alban, who died a thousand years before. As Nimue, Merlin saw the entire Terran Federation go down in fire and slaughter at the hands of a foe it could not defeat. He knows that Safehold is the last human planet in existence, and that the stasis the Church was created to enforce will be the human race’s death sentence if it is allowed to stand.
The juggernaut is rumbling down on Charis, but Merlin Athrawes and a handful of extraordinary human beings stand in its path. The Church is about to discover just how potent the power of human freedom truly is, in David Weber’s *A Mighty Fortress*.

A Dirty Job: A Novel

Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They’re even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie’s doing okay—until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems, has been recruited for a new position: as Death.
It’s a dirty job. But, hey! Somebody’s gotta do it.
### From Publishers Weekly
Moore spends a significant portion of his new novel speculating on the nature of the careful, cautious beta male, so it’s appropriate that Stevens, reading the novel, sounds like one himself, gently picking his way through the blackly comic tangles of the book’s dense plot. Charlie Asher’s life is thrown into chaos when his beloved wife unexpectedly dies, and while trying to recover a sense of balance, he finds himself suddenly surrounded by the dead and dying. Stevens’s voice is professional and assured, letting the jokes take care of themselves rather than pounding them into submission. Most importantly, Stevens’s average-guy voice stands in for Charlie’s own increasingly puzzled demeanor, besieged by a world which makes less and less sense, in which the realm of the dead grows ever larger.

### From Bookmarks Magazine
It’s certainly original. Even the harshest critic can’t begrudge Christopher Moore his vivid imagination, satirical plots, and humor. Like a good sleight-of-hand artist, Moore builds up a huge reserve of goodwill to pull off his most demanding trick yet: laughing at death. The already-strained boundaries of his previous work ( *Lamb,* an alternate history of Jesus’s life; *Bloodsucking Fiends* , a vampire love story; and *The Stupidest Angel* , concerning the resurrection of Santa Claus) stretch even further to produce this tale that critics praise for its “improbable humor” ( *New York Times* ) and courage in “embracing what we fear” ( *Washington Post* ). *Copyright © 2004 Phillips & Nelson Media, Inc.*

A Covenant of Justice

A genetically altered vampiric race known as the Phaestor threaten to overrun the galaxy, but the opposition–an outnumbered band of malcontents–fights savagely to preserve their freedom.
The galaxy is dominated by the Regency, a government of vampires and dragons and other mutated humans. Finn Markham, a mercenary tracker, and his brother, Sawyer, have been hired by the sinister Lady Zillabar and then betrayed by her. Infected with a horrific vampiric blood disease, Finn is near death.
Sawyer and his colleagues of the Alliance for Life must capture Lady Zillabar and defeat the Dragon Lord. After accomplishing that sure-to-be-impossible task, they can use the enigmatic powers of the Time-binders to pull down the Regency and replace it with a more equitable covenant of justice.
Gerrold is able to infuse his electrifying adventures with humor (the dangerously ravenous pfingle eggs come to mind) while keeping the action cascading past the reader at the speed of light. Saving the universe has never been more enjoyable. –Dennis Winters

A Call to Duty

From multiple  *New York Times* best seller David Weber and #1  *New York Times* best seller Timothy Zahn. Book #1 in Manticore Ascendant, a new series set in David Weber’s best-selling Honorverse series. 29 total *New York Times* bestsellers. This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Honor Harrington.
Growing up Travis Uriah Long yearned for order and discipline in his life—the two things his neglectful mother couldn’t or wouldn’t provide. So when Travis enlisted in the Royal Manticoran Navy, he thought he’d finally found the structure he’d always wanted so desperately.
But life in the RMN isn’t exactly what he expected. Boot camp is rough and frustrating; his first ship assignment lax and disorderly; and with the Star Kingdom of Manticore still recovering from a devastating plague, the Navy is on the edge of budgetary extinction.
The Star Kingdom is a minor nation among the worlds of the Diaspora, its closest neighbors weeks or months away, with little in the way of resources. With only modest interstellar trade, no foreign contacts to speak of, a plague-ravaged economy to rebuild, and no enemies looming at the hyper limit, there are factions in Parliament who want nothing more than to scrap the Navy and shift its resources and manpower elsewhere.
But those factions are mistaken. Events are in motion that will prove that the universe is not a safe place. Manticore may not be as isolated as everyone thinks, and Travis Long is about to find that out.

A Call to Arms

From multiple *New York Times* best-selling author David Weber and #1 *New York Times* best-selling author Timothy Zahn. A NEW ENTRY IN A BEST-SELLING SERIES. Book #2 in the Manticore Ascendant series, set in David Weber’s Honorverse. This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Honor Harrington.
Lieutenant Travis Long of the Royal Manticoran Navy is the sort of person who likes an orderly universe. One where people follow the rules.
Unfortunately, he lives in the  *real* universe.
The good news is that Travis is one of those rare people who may  *like*  rules but has a talent for thinking outside them when everything starts coming apart. That talent has stood him—and the Star Kingdom—in good stead in the past, and it’s one reason he’s now a “mustang,” an ex-enlisted man who’s been given a commission as a King’s officer.
The bad news is that two of the best ways of making enemies ever invented are insisting on enforcing the rules . . . and thinking outside them when other people don’t. But the one rule Travis Long absolutely can’t break is the one that says an officer in the Royal Navy does his duty, whatever the consequences.
At the moment, there are powerful forces in the young Star Kingdom of Manticore’s Parliament which don’t think they need him. For that matter, they’re pretty sure they don’t need the Royal Manticoran Navy, either. After all, what does a sleepy little single-system star nation on the outer edge of the explored galaxy need with a  *navy?*
Unhappily for them, the edge of the explored galaxy can be a far more dangerous place than they think it is. They’re about to find out why they need the Navy . . . and how very, very fortunate they are that Travis Long is in it.

**About *A Call to Arms* :**
“The plotting is as solid as ever, with smaller scenes building to an explosive, action-packed crescendo, and the authors strike a nice balance between technical details of space flight and the human cost of war.”— *Publishers Weekly*
**Praise for prequel *A Call to Duty* :**

“This exciting book marks the first collaboration of two powerhouses . . . fans of both writers should be quite pleased with the result. Like Robert A. Heinlein and Orson Scott Card, Weber and Zahn are telling a story about a teenage character but writing for readers of all ages.”— *Booklist*

A Beautiful Friendship

Stephanie Harrington absolutely hates being confined inside her family’s compound on the pioneer planet of Sphinx, a frontier wilderness world populated by dangerous native animals that could easily tear a human to bits and pieces. Yet Stephanie is a young woman determined to make discoveries—and the biggest discovery of all awaits her: an intelligent alien species.
Treecats are creatures that resemble a cross between a bobcat and a lemur (but with six legs and much more deadly claws). Not only are they fully sentient, they are also telepathic, and able to bond with certain gifted humans such as the genetically-enhanced Stephanie. But Stephanie’s find, and her first-of-its-kind bond with a treecat, brings on a new torrent of danger. An assortment of highly placed enemies with galactic-sized wealth at stake is determined to make sure that the planet of Sphinx remains entirely in human hands—even if this means the extermination of another thinking species.

A celebration of Japanese landscape design, this book features gardens from Kyoto and Tokyo, as well as from the sub-arctic island of Hokkaido and the semi-tropical islands of Okinawa. Author Stephen Mansfield traveled the length and breadth of Japan on a quest to identify the most impressive gardens in this vast and culturally varied archipelago. Through his exquisite visuals and engaging stories, we experience Japanese garden designs not merely as landscapes, but as large-scale art installations.
