Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan’s previous films have reflected the uncertainties of the twentieth-first century. With *Dunkirk* , Nolan has gone back into the past and brought to life one of the momentous events of the twentieth-century – the evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk, telling the tale by land, sea, and sky.
*Dunkirk* opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
The film features a prestigious cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, and newcomer Fionn Whitehead, with Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy.
The screenplay is accompanied by a conversation about the film between Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan,as well as selected storyboards.

Dragon Song

As the lead singer of Pyromancer, one of the hottest rock bands in the world, Nik Titus seems to have it all: fame, money, and a tight circle of close friends. He also happens to be an alpha synguanid, a species of dragon-shifter that has lived quietly among the humans for millennia. When the synguanid community calls upon their most famous member to help prevent the extinction of their species, Nik accepts the mission. Thus begins a quest with his bandmates and friends to find true love and acceptance for themselves and others.
When obstacles begin to arise, however, Nik starts to wonder if he’s the one for the job. An anti-dragon hate group has Pyromancer in their crosshairs . . . maybe literally. And when synguanids around him begin to find true love and start families, Nik’s loneliness may make him an easy target.
Nik Titus is on a quest, traveling the world to help his kind and find his omega, while spreading a message of peace and love. Who will listen?
Disclaimer: This book contains adult, sexually explicit content with an intense sex scene, male breeding and dominant alpha with his delicate rare omega. This should not be viewed for anyone under the age of 18. The book is approximately 50,000 words in length and does not end in a cliffhanger. **

Dollars and Sense

* **Why is paying for things painful?**
* **Why are we comfortable overpaying for something in the present just because we’ve overpaid for it in the past?**
* **Why is it easy to pay $4 for a soda on vacation, when we wouldn’t spend more than $1 on that same soda at our local grocery store?**

We think of money as numbers, values, and amounts, but when it comes down to it, when we actually use our money, we engage our hearts more than our heads. Emotions play a powerful role in shaping our financial behavior, often making us our own worst enemies as we try to save, access value, and spend responsibly. In *Dollars and Sense* , bestselling author and behavioral economist Dan Ariely teams up with financial comedian and writer Jeff Kreisler to challenge many of our most basic assumptions about the precarious relationship between our brains and our money. In doing so, they undermine many of personal finance’s most sacred beliefs and explain how we can override some of our own instincts to make better financial choices.
Exploring a wide range of everyday topics—from the lure of pain-free spending with credit cards to the pitfalls of household budgeting to the seductive power of holiday sales—Ariely and Kreisler demonstrate how our misplaced confidence in our spending habits frequently leads us astray, costing us more than we realize, whether it’s the real value of the time we spend driving forty-five minutes to save $10 or our inability to properly assess what the things we buy are actually worth. Together Ariely and Kreisler reveal the emotional forces working against us and how we can counteract them. Mixing case studies and anecdotes with concrete advice and lessons, they cut through the unconscious fears and desires driving our worst financial instincts and teach us how to improve our money habits.
The result not only reveals the rationale behind our most head-scratching financial choices but also offers clear guidance for navigating the treacherous financial landscape of the brain. Fascinating, engaging, funny, and essential, *Dollars and Sense* provides the practical tools we need to understand and improve our financial choices, save and spend smarter, and ultimately live better.

Divine Intervention

This volume contains eleven stories not previously collected together and not included in any of the other classic Sheckley compendiums published by Open Road.
In “Sarkanger,” Gregor and Arnold of the AAA Ace Interplanetary Decontamination Corporation take on an extermination job on Sarkan. Things get surprisingly complicated when the target vermin start arguing about who should be wiped out.
The ten other stories in this collection are “At the Conference of the Birds,” “The Destruction of Atlantis,” “Dial-a-Death,” “Divine Intervention,” “Love Song from the Stars,” “Message from Hell,” “The Necessary Thing,” “Robotvendor Rex,” “There Will Be No War after This One,” and “Wormworld.”
From the very beginning of his career, Robert Sheckley was recognized by fans, reviewers, and fellow authors as a master storyteller and the wittiest satirist working in the science fiction field. Open Road is proud to republish his acclaimed body of work, with nearly thirty volumes of full-length fiction and short story collections. Rediscover, or discover for the first time, a master of science fiction who, according to the *New York Times* , was “a precursor to Douglas Adams.”

Diversifications

James Lovegrove’s second collection of short fiction is a swirling kaleidoscope of ideas, language and wordplay. In this book you will meet robots living in a flesh world, travellers who vie to explore the most exotic alternate dimensions, and viruses that spread by speech. There’s a serial killer who preys on serial killers, a doctor who takes the concept of downsizing to hideous extremes, a hangman coming to terms with his guilt over the executions he performed, and a jogaholic forever trying to atone for the biggest mistake of his life.
From the red plains of Mars to a back-garden party, from modern London as Jules Verne might have imagined it to a futuristic society out of Mary Shelley’s worst nightmares, Lovegrove demonstrates yet again the extraordinary diversity and depth of his talent. Here, from a writer described by the Bookseller as having “become to the 21st century what J.G. Ballard was to the 20th” and by SFX as “one of the UK SF scene’s most interesting, challenging and adventurous authors”, are sixteen unforgettable tales filled with powerful characterisation, vivid storytelling, and dazzling verbal dexterity.

Dimitri

**Book 2 in the Her Russian Protector series**
Refusing to lose her brother to the violent Hermanos street gang, Benny turns to Dimitri, the dead sexy Russian who lives in the apartment above her family’s bakery. He’s the only man tough enough to get through to Johnny and save him from a life in prison—or worse.
There’s nothing Dimitri won’t do for Benny, even if it means dealing with her troublemaking brother. He quickly realizes that it’s not just Johnny and his thug friends that pose a threat to Benny. A shady real estate developer needs to buy her bakery to secure a multi-million dollar deal and he’ll stop at nothing to make her sell.
Threatened from all sides, Benny finds safety in Dimitri’s strong arms—and in his bed. Her big, sexy Russian has no intention of ever letting her go—and he’ll brave the fires of hell before he lets anyone harm her.
Reader’s Note: Dimitri is an incredibly passionate man with a dominant streak—and Benny is only too happy to indulge his need for a little…restraint.
*Unlike the first novella in the series, IVAN, this book is a full-length novel at 250+ pages and 77,000 words.* **

Diary

The bestselling author of Lullaby and Choke continues his twenty-first century reinvention of the horror novel in this homage to Rosemary’s Baby. Diary takes the form of a ‘coma diary’ kept by one Misty Tracy Wilmot as her husband lies senseless in hospital after a suicide attempt. Once she was an art student dreaming of creativity and freedom; now, after marrying Peter at art school and being brought back to once quaint, now tourist-overrun Waytansea Island, she’s been reduced to the condition of a resort hotel maid. Peter, it turns out, has been hiding rooms in houses he’s refurbished and scrawling vile messages all over the walls – an old habit of builders but gone nuts on his part. Angry homeowners are suing left and right, and Misty’s dreams of artistic greatness are in ashes. But then, as if possessed by the spirit of Maura Kinkaid, a fabled Waytansea artist of the nineteenth century, Misty begins painting again, compulsively. The canvases are taken away by her mother-in-law and her doctor, who seem to have a plan for Misty – and for all those annoying tourists… A dark, hilarious and, this time, poignant act of storytelling from America’s favourite, most inventive nihilist.

Diario Di Una Sottomessa

Devil Red

Hap Collins and Leonard Pine return in a red-hot, mayhem-fueled thriller to face a vampire cult, the Dixie Mafia, and the deadliest assassin they’ve ever encountered — Devil Red. When their friend Marvin asks Hap and Leonard to look into a cold-case double homicide, they’re more than happy to play private investigators: they like trouble, and they especially like getting paid to find it. It turns out that both of the victims were set to inherit serious money, and one of them ran with a vampire cult. The more closely Hap and Leonard look over the crime-scene photos, the more they see, including the image of a red devil’s head painted on a tree. A little research turns up a slew of murders with that same fiendish signature. And if that’s not enough, Leonard has taken to wearing a deerstalker cap . . . Will this be the case that finally sends Hap over the edge? Full up with Lansdale’s trademark — whip-smart dialogue, relentless pacing, and unorthodox-to-say-the-least characters — Devil Red is one rambunctious thrill ride by one hell of a writer.

Design in Nature

**In this groundbreaking book, Adrian Bejan takes the recurring patterns in nature—trees, tributaries, air passages, neural networks, and lightning bolts—and reveals how a single principle of physics, the Constructal Law, accounts for the evolution of these and all other designs in our world.**

Everything—from biological life to inanimate systems—generates shape and structure and *evolves* in a sequence of ever-improving designs in order to facilitate flow. River basins, cardiovascular systems, and bolts of lightning are very efficient flow systems to move a current—of water, blood, or electricity. Likewise, the more complex architecture of animals evolve to cover greater distance per unit of useful energy, or increase their flow across the land. Such designs also appear in human organizations, like the hierarchical “flowcharts” or reporting structures in corporations and political bodies.
All are governed by the same principle, known as the Constructal Law, and configure and reconfigure themselves over time to flow more efficiently. Written in an easy style that achieves clarity without sacrificing complexity, *Design in Nature* is a paradigm-shifting book that will fundamentally transform our understanding of the world around us.

Demon’s Revenge

“I guess this isn’t a good time.” Lendill folded into the kitchen.”Here. It has bourbon in it.” I pushed my cup of tea toward him and rose from my seat to make another.”Land and sky, Reah, this is strong.” Lendill took a sip from my cup.”Yeah. Sit down,” I said. “What do you want?””Is that any way to treat a mate you haven’t seen in months?””You only show up when you want something,” I said. “So what is it?””Bel has disappeared,” Lendill swallowed more tea, grimaced and then swallowed more.”Wizard Bel?” I hadn’t seen Bel for years, yet I knew he still worked for the ASD.”Yes. I sent him to investigate a problem on Surnath, and he vanished. We can’t find him.””What kind of problem?” I asked, sitting down with my freshly poured and spiked tea. I didn’t even ask Teeg if he wanted any. I was still pissed at him.”A worker in an electronics factory went crazy and killed twenty of his coworkers after getting his hands on a laser pistol somehow. And then, two weeks later, a secretary at a legal firm kills six people there. The governor of the Realm on Surnath asked us to investigate. We thought it was just a copy crime. Bel was in so he volunteered. Was there for three days before he came up missing.””That’s terrible,” I said. “And you tried mindspeech and everything?””Yes. No answer. Bel isn’t one to fall easily into a trap. So we’re all concerned.””Me, too,” I nodded. I’d known Bel when I was a conscript in the Regular Alliance Army.”Norian and I are willing to pay top credit if you’ll work a special assignment on this.”Wizard Bel is missing, after investigating two crimes on Surnath. Reah agrees to work this special assignment for the ASD, and discovers that Bel’s disappearance is linked to far deeper and much darker crimes. The criminals behind these crimes hold the survival of both Alliances in their grip and it is up to Reah to expose them before their final plans become a reality.

Demon’s Quest

“He wants to talk to you again,” the girl winced.”I want to bust his nose,” I muttered, making the girl laugh. I hefted the tray up and carried it to his table.”I had to wait two clicks to get in here.””I told you to call ahead,” I said, settling the tray on a stand and handing off his noodle bowl, followed by the plate of ox-roast.”I thought you were making that up.””I never lie about food,” I said. “Is there anything else?” I swept the tray off the stand.”Ex-ASD?””That’s what the Director said. And he’s not high on my list, unless it’s the list of people I never want to see again.””What’s the problem with Director Keef?””Where do you want me to start?””Start with the most recent.””My dead daughter,” I snapped and walked away. After Reah’s brush with death, she is understandably distrustful of most of her mates. Striking out on her own, she is determined to investigate a rash of child disappearances across the universes, in and outside the Alliances. The evil she discovers in the course of her investigations could bring all worlds to their knees if Reah doesn’t find a way to destroy it.

Demon’s Dream

“Dad When did you get here?” Kevis looked up from his comp-vid-he was completing notes on a patient. He entered the last bit of information and stood to greet his father. “Kev, I have a patient I’d like to put in your clinic,” Karzac said, walking in to sit beside his son’s beautifully polished wood desk. Kevis, a physician for the past thirty years, ran a private clinic for patients with difficult mental problems. “Dad, surely not one of the Saa Thalarr,” Kevis sat down again and hit an electronic key on his deskcomp. Kevis looked very much like his father-nearly six feet tall with light-brown hair and green-gold eyes. He’d opened his private clinic twenty years earlier on Refizan, his father helping financially. Kevis was doing very well for himself. “No. Not one of those. And I think when we get her, the Larentii will have already made a great deal of progress in her treatment. What we really need for her, I think, is peace and quiet, where there isn’t anyone troubling her with something that needs to be done. She hasn’t had a vacation in years, has been attacked and made very ill recently and there are other circumstances that have affected her. She almost killed herself three days ago.” “Is there anything unusual about her?” Kevis lifted an eyebrow at his father. He suspected that the prospective patient might not be completely human. “She’s High Demon, son, and hasn’t been treated well for a very long time.” * * * Reah’s mental health is compromised, new enemies appear and Teeg’s control of the Campiaan Alliance is threatened. While Reah struggles to regain her health, her mates work to redeem themselves and reclaim her trust. Meanwhile, signs begin to appear-are the god wars imminent? Only time will tell…

Demon Revealed

(Reah, I know you’re not happy with us right now, but we didn’t order the firebombing. RAA moved without consulting us.)
(And I’m supposed to believe that?)
(Reah, you’re being disrespectful with a superior.) I didn’t answer him. If he knew how disrespectful I wanted to be – I was staring at Xiri’s bones, after all. I sobbed. (Reah? Reah, are you still there?)
(You be respectful, Vice-Director, the next time a friend’s bones lie beneath your hand.) I cut off the communication. Lendill didn’t try again.
The Drakus seed trade is threatening to destroy the Alliance as an old enemy reemerges. Reah is placed in the thick of that battle, with no experience and little help from her superiors. Unexpected betrayals and alliances are formed, and Reah must use every bit of her strength and wit to protect those she loves.
